BREKKY REVIEW: Suburban Cafe, West End

Suburban Cafe in West End have dramatically increased their social media presence in the past couple of months. They boast tasty food with plenty of vegan, gluten free and vegetarian options. They are situated close to many other cafes, the competition is fierce! But I think that Suburban Cafe is a force to be reckoned with!!

I was lucky to arrive early to my breakfast date because the menu is just so good it took me so long to decide what to have! I always try to stray from the traditional Avo Toast with Poached eggs so decided on the “Grilled Haloumi” (with roasted pumpkin, sauteed greens, house dukkah and a lemon veniagerette) $16 (GF/VEG) and added two poached eggs $4. My meal was delicious! It was nice to have a breakfast which is filling and tasty without copious amounts of bread. The vinaigrette was perfect and complimented the greens perfectly – poached eggs as add ons should be compulsory!

Ad was unfortunately given the hard task of making a critical decision under pressure. Eventually deciding on after considerable deliberation “Vegan Bliss” (field mushrooms, roast pumpkin, asparagus, broccolini and slow roasted tomato on fresh sourdough with dukkah) $19 – which she added poached eggs to $4 which defeated the name! All of the vegetables were cooked to perfection and worked together beautifully (even the eggs :P).

I finally was able to try a Green Matcha Latte which the waitress recommended come with a side of honey. It was delicious but as it has a very strong green tea flavour I would only recommend it for green tea addicts.

Suburban Cafe is located close to the corner of Melbourne and Boundary Streets. Although it is welcoming and cosy with fresh native flowers on the tables. The cafe has indoor and outdoor dining with gas heaters and blankets.

All of the waitstaff were very accommodating and welcoming. For a busy Saturday morning they did not seem phased by the crowds.

The Verdict: We enjoyed our time at Suburban Cafe the menu is innovative and exciting. It offers something different to the traditional breakfast menu and we cannot wait to go back and try out some of the other menu items. Overall 8/10
