6 Reasons to do a HIIT Workout

As more and more people are working out more and more workout variations are being created! One that stands out from the rest are HIIT Workouts otherwise known as High Intensity Interval Training. After seeing below all of the reasons why you should be doing these workouts you won’t really have any reason not to!

Before we get into why should you do it – what is a HIIT Workout?

A HIIT Workout differs in training but involves repeated bouts of high intensity effort followed by a short recovery. These high intensity efforts range between 80%-95% of a person’s maximal heart rate.


1. Fast

HIIT Workouts vary in length starting at around 15 minutes and lasting a maximum of 45 minutes – don’t worry this includes breaks too!

HIIT workouts have been scientifically proven to improve the following:

  • Abdominal Body Weight and Fat


3. The Workouts are Suitable For Just About Everyone!

The way these workouts have been designed mean that they are easily modified for a whole variety of people. Making them suitable for people who have diabetes or are overweight, the everyday Joe to professional athletes. Just remember folks to modify your workout to suit your fitness level!


4. Location

Another great thing about these workouts is you are not restricted to your home or gym! For some no equipment is needed so there is nothing stopping you from working out in your local park or your hotel room! It also isn’t limited to circuit training, you can easily perform a HIIT workout by running, cycling and much more.


5. Aerobic and Anaerobic

Due to the increased intensity of a HIIT workout the body increases both aerobic and anaerobic endurance whilst burning larger amounts of fats than low intensity exercise.


6. ** EPOC **

My final and most important benefit of a HIIT workout is EPOC. EPOC is the post exercise period called “Excess Postexercise Oxygen Consumption” and “is the 2 hour period after exercise where the body is restoring itself to pre-exercise levels, thus using more energy.” This generally equates to 6-15% more calories than during your workout. Yes that’s correct when you come home and collapse on the couch after your HIIT workout your body is still burning those calories!
