LUNCH REVIEW: Yard Bird Ale House, Paddington

The Brisbane food scene is growing at a rapid rate. Lots of places are popping up here, there and everywhere. We decided to head to Yard Bird Ale House for a relaxing Sunday lunch.

Yard Bird offers an American themed menu – perfect pub style shared meals. We decided to share the Margarita Pizza $15.00. It was simple and tasty although the base was slightly soggy.

We also opted for the Cuban sandwich with pulled pork, smoked leg ham, Swiss cheese, 16.0 and pickled gherkins, finished with American mustard and garlic butter
on a long roll. Let be honest it was more of a roll than a sandwhich. The pulled pork was tasty but overall the roll was messy and a bit disappointing.

We decided to share some Sweet Potato Fries (so trendy) $8.00. The biggest thing I normally worry about with sweet potato fries are that they can be soggy, unfortunately these arrived over cooked.

In true Sunday lunching style we had a couple of cold coronas with lime. They were reasonably priced and super refreshing. As the name suggests there are lots of beers on tap and they offer a large range of Bottled ales.

Yard Bird is at the Suncorp end of Latrobe Tce. It offers indoor and outdoor seating. It looks like they are expanding too!

All of the front of house staff were lovely. Unfortunately, the food took a very long time. So much so we were given a complimentary beer for our wait. Unfortunately, with pub style food it is usually expected to be fast.

The Verdict: Yard Bird has a great relaxed atmosphere. It is in a great location and the front of house staff are great. It’s a shame the food was disappointing. Overall 6/10.
