BREKKY REVIEW: Espresso Garage, South Bank

I used to visit Garage frequently, it is an old gem! I was so happy to go back and see how they were going. They have made some small changes but all were for the best! Garage attracts a huge cycle trade in the mornings serving up the perfect post-ride brekky in the perfect post-ride location.

Food

Garage is famous for their Avocado on Toast. They keep it simple serving it DIY style, two slices of toasted Turkish bread with half an avocado and tomato relish $7. The relish is the perfect accompaniment and the avocado’s are always great quality no matter what time of the year you go!

Improvement #1: Garage has expanded it’s menu since I was there last. Now offering eggs, halloumi and other goodies. All still at a reasonable price.

Drinks

The coffee is great from garage, they serve . As it was one of the first days of spring we decided to try two of their smoothies! I had the Mango Smoothie $7 and my friend had the Berry smoothie $7. Both were a good thick consistency and very tasty.

Location

Espresso Garage as the name suggests is merely the size of a single space Garage. Not to worry though that doesn’t include the seating! Improvement #2: The seating is another improvement, previous plastic Ikea stools and milk crates has been replaced with chairs with backs and sturdy tables! Thank god!

Service

Improvement #3: EFTPOS – sounds simply but I am so relieved they have upgraded from the old day! The staff were friendly but our super simple avocado toast did take a while to arrive (20 mins +). It seems like a couple of extra hands were needed the day we were there.

The Verdict: I thoroughly enjoyed my return to Garage. It was great to see a small business doing so well and able to make great changes that benefit the patrons. The prices are reasonable and the food was consistently good. Overall I give them a 8/10.
